Excusing Japanese War Crimes to own the reds.

Does the average Japanese know about their ancestors' war crimes in WW2?

Why do people make a big deal about Code Geass being Japanese nationalism at best or a propaganda to downplay Japan's past war crimes? Is it because they didn't pay attention clearly or they just don't like anime?

Code Geass most of the time gets misunderstood being Japanese nationalism at best or a propaganda for Japan just to downplay their past war crimes. For the most part, it isn't about the Japanese but Lelouch so most of the time Lelouch hides his identity to make himself an idol to them so that he can further his own ambitions. The Japanese don't mean anything to Lelouch and once his secrets were leaked did they betray him.

I've noticed that in this series, Japan is divided per say and we see that Lelouch went up against Code Geass' Imperial Japan equivalent in the form of the Japanese Liberation Front who were as racist as Britannia and it's real life equivalent IJA. Not all of Japan in the past prior to Imperial Japan were as racist or evil since insurrectionists and anti Imperial Japan activists stood up to ensure the end of Imperial Japan by helping those occupied like Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnamn, Cambodia, Singapore, Phillipines, etc. For other reasons, Code Geass shows the sympathetic side of Japan that were not Imperial Japan and took it to a different direction of the outcome that is to become if Imperial Japan failed like due to the Japanese Liberation Front's fate.

Countries that were previously occupied by Japan would likely see this show as a propaganda but those who understand it's message clearly can take a liking to it.

I wonder why people misunderstand this show a lot? Nowadays anime is dislikeable despite growing it's fans and at the same time some viewers lack the skills to articulate and perform critical thinking to know the subtlety and message whatever they are watching.

Why are Japanese war crimes from World War II so often overlooked?

People bleat endlessly about the crimes the Nazis did in WWII and it's obvious that Allied war crimes are glossed over due to being on the winning side, but the Japanese were in the Axis Powers and very little tends to be said about their war crimes before and during WWII.

The Japanese engaged in unethical human experimentation (Unit 731), murdered and raped hundreds of thousands of people in China in the Nanjing Massacre, took hundreds of thousands of women as sex slaves where they were raped until they were no longer of use then disposed of, not to mention committed acts of unspeakable cruelty on Allied servicemen in Asia and the Pacific, such as death marches, torturing prisoners of war, burning them alive, mutilating their bodies, cannibalism, and so on.

The modern Japanese government doesn't care and even venerates the old Japanese regime as war heroes. If Germany did that, they'd be heavily scrutinised to say the least.

Especially after those Japanese war crimes episodes

Organized group of thousands of Japanese people denying the brutal crimes in World War 2. What are your thoughts?

I recently passed by a Twitter thread that justifies the participation of Japanese troops in the war crimes. They vehemently denied the raping in Nanking and other rapes in Korea and Asia. They kept claiming Chinese people, Korean people, Americans published lies and fake photos about their country to make them look bad. They were serious in claiming that Japan's purpose for the war was to save Asia from the European colonial powers. Each of their accounts has about 200+ to 1000+ followers. One of my friends whom I showed that thread to suspected that those accounts looked like they're part of Uyoku Dantai. First time I heard that so I searched it up and I'm now convinced that they are. I looked up how many estimated members they had and it said up to 100,000 members. That's a lot of Japanese people in an organized group with the same purpose of denying their country's participation in the war crimes.

I have a couple of questions to those of you who are interested.

What are some of the best evidence of the brutality of Japanese troops that can't be denied? please share.

How many Japanese troops admit their war crimes? If there are any.

How many Japanese troops were persecuted for the war crimes? If there are any.

TIL John Rabe, Nazi Party member who protected some 200,000 Chinese civilians during the Occupation (Rape) of Nanking by means of the Nanking Safety Zone, wrote to Hitler himself in an effort to have him use his influence to stop the horrendous Japanese war crimes. To what extent was Hirohito responsible for Japanese war crimes during WWII?

In 1946, several Japanese war criminals were put on trial and executed for their crimes. High profile offenders like Hideki Tojo were hanged, but Hirohito was not prosecuted. It is heavily disputed how much control he had over Imperial Japan's actions, with many vehemently denying it after the war.

Guy defends Japanese war crimes

The Yasakuni Shrine was a place of worship built in 1869 to honor those who died fighting for the Emperor in the Boshin War & later wars. After WW2 many more Japanese soldiers were honored there. Over 1,000 of them were charged with war crimes, and 14 were class A war criminals like Hideki Tojo.

Japan's war crimes against POWs was atrocious. How did Japan help former Japanese soldiers recover, and what effect did the war have on Japan's psyche?

The apathetic permission to abuse and mistreat POWs is atrocious. For instance, their murdering of 5,000 Koreans, quarter million Chinese civilians while searching for downed American pilots, and their lighting 200 POWs on fire before the camp was overtaken by US bombers (it was a false alarm and the camp was not bombed).

These Japanese soldiers must have suffered incredible trauma, and that trauma must have spread into Japanese society. What efforts have been made to help the nation recover psychologically?
